Delighting In The Lord

Considering the fact that Psalm 37:4 is likely one of the most frequently quoted verses in Scripture, I heard this verse for the first time at a very young age. And to be honest, I pretty much zoned in on the “he will give you the desires of your heart” portion of the verse and gave little thought to the rest of the passage. So as I got older and experienced the pain and disappointment that came from unfulfilled desires and unmet expectations, you can imagine my frustration, because God wasn’t seeming to hold up His end of the bargain. But I had it all wrong.

Distancing Yourself From God

When Jesus is using the vine and branch analogy with His disciples, He makes it very clear that if we aren’t connected to Him, we can’t do anything. If we distance ourselves from Him, we’ll never get through this tough season. We’ll never be able to fully move on from the hurt, the loss, the disappointment, and the frustration. If we don’t draw near to the Lord, we won’t be capable of navigating the unexpected.

There Is Purpose In Your Circumstances

A few years ago, I submitted a book proposal to be reviewed by a publisher. As I do with any major piece of writing, I sent the proposal to my dad for him to look over and make sure I didn’t miss any typos or mistakes. But when my dad texted me after reading the proposal, I wasn’t expecting him to respond the way he did. His response was so kind and so encouraging, so I wrote it down in my journal.

Open Your Hands

Surrender is a byproduct of trust. If you don’t trust that God’s plans are perfect and that He has your best interest in mind, then you’re going to keep your fists closed around your own plans and dreams. You’re not going to let go of what you think is good if you don’t think you’ll be getting something better in its place.

How To Keep A Prayer Journal

I started writing down my prayers during the summer before my senior year of high school, and I’ve been keeping a prayer journal ever since. I’ve written down prayers about anything and everything: friends, family, boys, basketball, work, money, etc. If it was on my heart, I wrote it down. And now after over ten years of writing down my prayers, it has been the biggest blessing to be able to go back through these journals and read about how God was working in my heart and to see how He answered the prayers I wrote down.

Fighting To Be Right

A few months ago during one of our share/prayer times, my friend Meredith was praying for me.
