We’re all waiting for something, because waiting never seems to be absent from our lives in one way or another. Even if we finally get to the end of a season of waiting for one thing, another waiting season never seems to be too far behind.
Read MoreIsn’t it good to know that the God we serve is able to give us whatever we ask for? He’s able to open any door, answer any prayer, lift any burden, heal any hurt, and make any way. But how many times have you asked God to give you something, only to realize it wasn’t what you really needed all along?

And to be honest, I pretty much zoned in on the “he will give you the desires of your heart” portion of the verse and gave little thought to the rest of the passage. So as I got older and experienced the pain and disappointment that came from unfulfilled desires and unmet expectations, you can imagine my frustration, because God wasn’t seeming to hold up His end of the bargain. But I had it all wrong.

Now every time I find myself in the midst of waiting, I think about how much more driving my Mustang means to me now because of how long I had to wait for it. And I think about what I would have missed out on if I had settled 10 years ago. I know settling might seem like a good idea when you’re tired of waiting, but it’s never worth it. Don’t put up with the good just because you don’t want to wait for the great.

We can’t always make sure we’re fulfilled and provided for in our own power and our own strength. BUT…the good news about being a follower of Jesus is that we have a God who loves to provide for us. We serve a God who can meet all of our needs and can always come through. And we have a God we can depend on no matter what we’re walking through and what challenges or deficiencies we’re facing.

Wondering if you’re ever going to get married or if you’re going to be single for the rest of your life is a tough pill to swallow. Because contrary to what all the ladies in church imply when they say, “Don’t worry. You’ll find someone!” God doesn’t guarantee marriage for anyone. Nowhere in Scripture does He promise to give every single woman a husband. So as much as this question is one we like to avoid and hope we never have to answer, it’s one we need to take into consideration.

Read MoreToday’s key Scripture passage is one of the most encouraging passages in the Bible, and also one of the most frustrating all at the same time. Let me explain. It’s encouraging when you’re waiting for something or asking God for something, because He is saying that eventually we will get an answer. If we’re praying according to His will, we will see our desires come to fruition. But this passage gets super frustrating when it seems like you’ve been asking for the same thing over and over with no apparent response, or when you’ve been knocking at a door that seems permanently locked.
Read MoreIt’s so easy to get wrapped up in our own hopes, dreams, and desires, and become convinced that we know exactly what will satisfy our hearts. But my friend Elaine reminded me that our desires for ourselves and God’s desires for us aren’t always the exact same thing. She told me, “Kristen, you’re going to be so grateful that God did not give you your lesser desires, even though you would have sworn those were the things that would do the trick."
