When Life Changes, Jesus Remains The Same
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. - Hebrews 13:8
Isn’t it crazy how quickly life can change? It’s like one day you’re just going about your business and the next it seems like everything that once felt certain gets flipped on its head. A great relationship ends unexpectedly. A new opportunity falls in your lap. The chance to pursue a dream comes, but not without some sacrifices.
I went through a season a few years ago where everything about my life seemed to be changing at the same time. I was leaving my job working at my church after nearly four years to start a brand new career. I was moving into a new apartment. My boyfriend had just broken up with me seemingly out of the blue. My dad had just lost his job. My parents were selling my childhood home. And I found out my best friend was pregnant.
That’s a lot of change to happen in a two month period. And quick change that I’m not prepared for is my least favorite kind of change. If I can talk myself through a transition, if I can take my time prepping myself to deal with the repercussions of the change, then I can manage just fine. But these quick changes compounding on top of each other were almost too much to handle.
But it was during this season of my life that I was not only able to witness God’s goodness in navigating me through the change. I was also reminded that even when my circumstances change, He remains the same.
In Hebrews chapter 13, we are promised that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,” (Hebrews 13:8). He never changes. He never wavers. He never falters. And He never leaves. He is always there, always working, and always taking care of His children.
So if you’re facing some sort of change in your life right now, I hope that you’ll find comfort in today’s key Scripture. I hope that when you’re tempted to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and uncertain about the future, you’ll turn to the one who knows the future like the back of His hand. I hope that you’ll take the time to remember how the Lord has helped you through change in the past, and how He will be just as faithful in the midst of the change you’re facing today. And most of all, I pray that you’ll find peace in the fact that Jesus never changes, even when your circumstances do.
