10 Verses For When You’re Wondering If God Is Going To Come Through
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19
As I’m writing this, Kevin and I are in the car on our way to Kentucky. It’s raining, the sky dark enough to make you think the sun has already gone down, even though I know it hasn’t. We’re about 45 minutes from our hotel, and I’ve been praying the same prayer silently in my head over and over throughout the entire seven-and-a-half-hour drive…Lord, please let us find a house this weekend.
I know I haven’t told the entire story yet in these devotions about how Kevin and I decided to move to Kentucky (there will be more on that story in the weeks to come, don’t worry). But for now, here’s a little context.
We’re moving from Atlanta, Georgia to northern Kentucky in about five weeks for Kevin to start a job at a new church. We’re so excited. We’re full of expectation for all that God is going to do in this new season and new chapter of our lives as we start our marriage in a brand new place. We can’t wait to get plugged into the church and get settled. There’s just one problem:
We don’t know where we’re going to live.
That’s right. We know when we’re moving, but we don’t know where we’re moving.
As I’m sure you’re probably aware, the housing market is absolutely INSANE right now. We realize this is quite possibly the worst time we could be looking to buy a house, and yet we’re still trying. We’ve put offers on other houses only to get the not-so-fun call from our realtor saying our offer wasn’t accepted.
It’s been a process with a lot of highs and lows, lots of waiting, and even more wondering. And so as we drive up to what will be our hometown in a few weeks, my faith is wavering a little bit, if I’m being honest. It’s hard not to doubt. It’s tough not to expect disappointment and bad news again. It’s difficult not to assume that we’re going to get one-upped again if we offer on another house.
Have you ever struggled like this? Have you ever struggled with defaulting to doubting and expecting to be let down, rather than believing God is going to come through? If you have, trust me, friend, I get it. When you’ve been let down, when you’ve been disappointed, when you’ve gotten your hopes up for what seems like no reason, it starts to feel like a waste of time to stay hopeful.
It's in these moments that I’m grateful for God’s Word. I’m grateful for verses and passages in Scripture that speak to these feelings, the ones that offer hope when we can’t seem to muster it up on our own.
So if you’re struggling with doubt, if you’re wondering whether or not God is going to come through for you in the way you want Him to, I hope you’ll take the time to sit with these verses and let them soak into your heart and your mind. If you do, I promise they will bring you so much comfort and peace. They will fill you with hope when all you want to do is second-guess God. And they will remind you that even if God doesn’t come through the way you wanted, He is still good, He still has a plan, and He still wants the best for you.
