10 Verses For When You're Stressed Out

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. - Deuteronomy 31:8

The three months after my wedding were some of the most stressful I’ve ever experienced. I got married. I moved in with my husband’s apartment, but only for a couple of months before we moved to a different state. My husband sprained his ACL and LCL playing basketball. Our dog had three different health emergencies. We had one of our cars in the shop so we were down to one car for two people. And we were trying to buy a house. Needless to say, a lot of different things were occupying my mind.

The stress was quite overwhelming at times. I cried from the weight of it all. I prayed frustrated prayers. I lost sleep. I worried way too much. And at some points, I even laughed, not because it was funny, but because I didn’t know what else to do.

And can I tell you, none of that helped. None of those things made my circumstances any better or made me feel any less stressed or overwhelmed. There was only one thing that made any sort of difference, one thing that gave me any glimmer of peace amidst all of the craziness, and that was the time I spent reading my Bible.

There is nothing that will calm me down more when I’m stressed than meditating on God’s Word. Whether I write out verses in my journal or speak them out loud to myself, spending time focusing on Scripture is the only thing that gives me any peace. So, with that in mind, I wanted to give you a list of verses you could meditate on if you’re feeling stressed out, tired, anxious, worried, or overwhelmed.

May the Lord encourage your heart, grant rest for your soul, and give you peace that surpasses all understanding as you turn your eyes, mind, and heart to Him.
