10 Verses For When You're Feeling Hopeless

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. - Romans 15:13

My word for the year 2020 was “hope.” The Lord usually gives me my word for the upcoming year in the fall and that year was no different. In the middle of October of 2019, I had begun to see a pattern. The word “hope” was popping up everywhere. And I’ve learned that when God repeats Himself like that, I need to pay attention.

I had no idea what 2020 was going to look like. But God knew. And He knew that hope was going to be something I needed. He knew I was going to need the reminder that hope can always be found in Him, no matter what my circumstances look like. He knew there were going to be moments where I was sad, frustrated, tired of waiting, and wondering if there was a light at the end of the long tunnel I’d been walking through. He knew I was going to need hope, and I’m so glad He did.

That being said, I read a lot about hope in my Bible that year. The Lord was so gracious to continue bringing several of the same verses to my attention so that I would take note of them. And those are the verses I want to share with you today.

Feeling hopeless is no joke. Trying to find hope in the darker days can seem almost impossible. But friend, trust me. There is always hope to be found in Jesus. If we are His children, we are never without hope. His Word promises that. And I’m so grateful for those promises.

I pray you’ll take the time to read through and meditate on these verses today, and as you do, may the Holy Spirit remind you that you always have hope because of Him and that even in your toughest, darkest seasons, there is still hope to be found.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. - Hebrews 11:1

For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. - Romans 8:24-25

Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. - Romans 5:2-5

For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. - Psalm 71:5

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. - Isaiah 41:10

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word. - Psalm 119:114

But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. - Psalm 71:14

Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love. - Psalm 33:18
