It's Time To Jump
As for God, his way is perfect. The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all those who take refuge in him…You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way. - Psalm 18:30, 35-36
One of the best pieces of advice my little brother Brett has ever given me is this: "The pain of rejection doesn't last nearly as long as the pain that comes from wondering 'what if?'"
I will never forget Brett saying that while he was sitting across the booth from me in a Zaxby’s while we ate chicken fingers. It was such a simple setting for a moment that packed such a punch for me. If I’m being honest, fear of rejection and fear of failure have always been two of my greatest fears. They’re often hiding behind the excuses I make for hesitating to take a leap of faith. Fear-filled questions swarm my mind, trying to convince me not to go after something that might seem risky, even if I feel like that something is what the Lord is pointing me towards.
What if something goes wrong?
What if it doesn’t work out how you hoped it would?
What if you get rejected?
What if your dream doesn't come true?
What if you fail?
I’m sure you’ve asked yourself these questions too. Maybe you feel like the Lord is leading you to take a leap of faith, but you’re worried about the outcome if you take the risk. If that’s you, I know exactly what you’re going through. I know those feelings of uncertainty all too well. But I also know that every single time I’ve followed the Lord’s lead, even when it seemed like a risky path to take, He’s never led me astray.
Is there something weighing on your heart that would require you to take a risk? Is God leading you to do something, but you're scared to take that step because you can't see the whole staircase? If so, let me be the first to tell you that there's no greater feeling than fully surrendering and trusting the Lord to do something He's calling you to do. And even though you can't be sure how things are going to turn out, you can be sure that He will be with you every step of the way.
Your circumstances might look different than you expect. The reactions of the people around you might not always be what you want to hear. Even the result of your risk-taking might not end up exactly how you thought it would. But you will be absolutely amazed to see how your trust and your faith grow in Him along the way.
Don't be scared, friend. Don't let fear paralyze you. Don't let your hesitations, your questions, and your insecurities keep you from experiencing all that God has for you.
It's time to jump.
