Does God Really Care About Every Aspect Of My Life?
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. (Philippians 4:6, NLT)
Something I learned early on in my walk with the Lord is that there is nothing too insignificant to pray about. We can talk to God about literally anything and everything. He wants to hear it all, and He wants to help us with it all. His Word makes this very clear in Paul’s letter to the Philippians when he said, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done” (Philippians 4:6, NLT).
But if we’re being honest with ourselves, there are a lot of things we don’t pray about, either because we think we have them under control, or because we think they’re not a big enough deal to bother God with. In our human minds, it’s easy to justify that God has bigger things to worry about than some small issue we’re dealing with or a seemingly minute request. But this is when we must remember that God doesn’t think or act the same way we do. Remember, His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).
The Lord is more than capable of not only listening to everything that’s on your mind and heart, but He’s capable of helping you and working within you to address every single prayer you offer up. In other words, He is the King of multi-tasking. Meanwhile I can’t even grocery shop and talk on the phone at the same time.
As I think back over my years following Jesus, I think about the different prayers I’ve prayed. Sure, there have been plenty of big prayers - asking for wisdom about where to go to college, figuring out if I should break up with my boyfriend, begging for clarity around a job opportunity. But there have also been prayers about less monumental life-markers, like when I asked God to give me a prom date my senior year of high school, or when I prayed I wouldn’t trip on stage at my college graduation.
Of course, I realize the latter prayers aren’t considered as big of a deal as the former prayers I talked about, but I truly believe that in God’s eyes, it’s not necessarily always what we’re praying about that matters. I think it matters more to Him that we’re coming to Him in the first place. It matters that we’re asking for help, that we’re admitting we can’t do life on our own, and that we’re submitting to His will and asking for His, whether that applies to our career, our academics, or our prom date.
So, whatever’s on your mind today, whatever is weighing on your heart, I hope you remember that nothing is too small or insignificant to bring to your Heavenly Father. Like I said before, He wants to hear it all. So don’t hesitate to talk to Him about anything and everything. Tell Him what you need, and then thank Him for all He has done.
