A Mountaintop Moment
“My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” – Proverbs 2:1-6, ESV
When was the last time you had a mountaintop experience in your relationship with Jesus? When did you have one of those moments when you could sense God’s presence, when He spoke directly to your heart through His Holy Spirit? Our Heavenly Father wants all of us to experience these mountaintop moments with Him, and we should desire to have these moments with Him as well.
One of the exciting parts about being a Christian is that mountaintop experiences are natural occurrences when you follow Jesus. You don’t have to work them up. You don’t have to make them happen. You don’t even have to position yourself for them physically, but you do need to position yourself spiritually in order to have this type of encounter with the Lord.
Spending time with the Lord each day, in prayer and in His Word, are great ways to position yourself spiritually for a mountaintop moment. When you are praying, you are opening communication with God, not only so that you can talk to Him, but also so He can speak to you. And when you spend time in His Word, you are gaining wisdom and discernment to know His voice.
What’s important to remember here is that God will never tell you anything that contradicts His Word. Instead, He will confirm what He says in Scripture with what He lays on your heart. But only by reading the Word can we gain more understanding and better discern what He wants to tell us.
With that in mind, my prayer for you is that today you will begin to take some time away from the busyness of life and position yourself spiritually for a mountaintop moment. The Lord strongly desires to have a close relationship with you. That’s why He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for you. If He was willing to make such an immense sacrifice to connect with you, can you be willing to be intentional about connecting with Him? He could have something He really wants to reveal to you, and my hope is that you would put yourself in the position to receive that revelation.
