Trusting God When You Can't See Him Working

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. – Proverbs 3:5

I want you to imagine a gardener sowing seeds in the fertile soil of a garden. Day after day, she tends to her plants with care, watering them, nurturing them, and patiently waiting for signs of growth. Yet, despite her efforts, the surface remains unchanged. Weeks pass, and still, there is no sign of life. Doubt creeps in, and she wonders if her labor has been in vain.

But beneath the surface, hidden from sight, a silent miracle is taking place. Deep within the soil, tiny roots are spreading, anchoring themselves firmly in the earth. Slowly but surely, the seeds are germinating, preparing to make their entrance into the light. What appeared to be stagnation was, in fact, the quiet work of growth and transformation.

In the same way, God often works in the hidden places of our lives, where our eyes cannot see, and our understanding falls short. We may long for tangible evidence of His presence, desperate for unmistakable signs of His activity. Yet, His ways are not always visible to our limited perspective.

In uncertain times like these, we are called to trust in the faithfulness of God, to believe that He is at work even when the evidence suggests otherwise. Just as the gardener must patiently wait for the fruits of her labor to appear, we must also wait upon the Lord, confident that His timing is perfect, and His purposes are sure.

The apostle Paul wrote, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). Even in the midst of our doubts and struggles, we can take comfort in the knowledge that God is working all things together for our ultimate good.

So when life feels like it’s at a standstill, and there seems to be no proof that things are going to change anytime soon, let us hold fast to our faith. In the silence and the waiting, we may discover the sweetest pictures of God's grace as He orchestrates a plan of redemption and renewal that surpasses our understanding.

Trust in the unseen hand of the Gardener, friend. You won’t be left disappointed.
