Following God's Path
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and light for my path.” - Psalm 119:105
I recently heard a great story about a grandfather walking with his grandson on a trip through the woods to go fishing.* At one point on their trek, the grandfather looked down at the little boy and asked, “Where are we?” The grandson looked up and said, “I don’t know.” Then the grandfather said, “Well, how do we get back home?” Again, the little boy answered, “I don’t know.” The grandfather chuckled, “Sounds like you’re lost, boy.” The little boy looked back up at him and said, “I can’t be lost. I’m with you.”
What would it look like for us to have that kind of confidence in God, just like the little boy had with his grandfather? He didn’t have to worry about which path he needed to take because he trusted that his grandfather was worth following.
The good news is, your Heavenly Father is worth following too. He has your best interest at heart, and He wants you to confidently walk the path He has mapped out for you.
Scripture has so much to say when it comes to following God’s path:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
“You have made known the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” (Psalm 16:11)
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
There is so much comfort and peace to be found in these verses. We can be confident that our God not only knows the best path for us to take, but He will reveal that path to us as we choose to trust and follow Him. I would encourage you today, as you walk into a new year, to ask God to give you confidence, faith, and trust as you follow His lead. You will be amazed at all that awaits on the path He has marked out for you.
